Adventure RacingHillary ChallengeNew Zealand’s toughest secondary school event, the Hillary Challenge is a week long outdoor adventure race held at O.P.C. that combines team work and problem solving with outdoor skills such as high ropes, abseiling, navigation, kayaking, search and rescue, tramping, rafting and mountain biking. Opunake High School placed 2nd in both 2007 and 2008 and 6th in 2009, proving we really do have the country’s toughest students! |

GO-4-12New Zealand Secondary Schools 12 Hour Adventure Racing champs are held each year in Hawkes Bay. Every year we send up to four teams of four students to race in the gruelling 12 hour event, consisting usually of navigation, running, mountain biking, kayaking and plenty of other mystery events. Recent top placings include 2nd in Boys’ division in 2007 and 2009, and 1st place in Mixed division in 2008. |

GET-2-GOGet-2-Go is a “Junior Hillary Challenge” event for Year 9 and 10 students. The day long “Amazing Race” style event in teams of 8, students use teamwork and initiative in a variety of outdoor challenges to become regional champ and contest in the nationals held at Great Barrier Island. In 2007 and 2008, Opunake was the second placed school in the Taranaki region. |
