PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Year 9 and 10

We want our students to be active for life. Our teaching topics include Adventure Based Learning, Duathlon, Basketball, Adventure Racing, Volleyball, Badminton, Fitness, World Games, Touch, Soccer, Cricket, Softball, Te Ao Kori and Sports Education.
Health topics include Relationships, Sexuality, Drugs and Alcohol, Nutrition, Healthy Lifestyles and Self Esteem.

Year 11, 12, 13

Students who choose senior PE learn the theory associated with a wide range of physical activities. This may include video analysis of golf swings or volleyball shots, or planning and participating in Adventure Races, Triathlons or Abseiling. Exercise and fitness programmes, anatomy, biomechanics and physiology are explored and the focus is always applying the theory to practical situations.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION

We live in the most beautiful and diverse place in the world. Opunake is an outdoor enthusiast's dream:- rivers, lakes, the sea, Mt Taranaki, an indoor climbing wall, heated pool, and the list goes on! Our Year 12 programme covers Kayaking, Mountain Biking, Climbing, Abseiling, Mountaineering, Camping, Tramping, High Ropes and Adventure Based Learning.
In Year 10 students can get a taster for the outdoors through T.O.P.E.C.
